Star Cafe Fort Worth Texas

I was in Fort Worth over the weekend so I ended up going to dinner over in the Stockyards.  We started out at the H3 Steakhouse however it has a 3 hour wait.  We ended up going over to Cattlemens they had a 1.5 hour wait and walked over to Risckys who had a 1 hour wait.  So on our way back to the car we happened to go by The Star Cafe.  It didnt look very busy which could be a negative sign for a Saturday night but we went ahead and went on in.

There was a 5 minute wait to be seated even though the restaurant was half empty, however one of the managers or owners was talking to us so it wasnt to bad.

When we were seated we were moderately hungry so we ordered some appetizers which they didnt have so we ordered onion rings at the waitresses suggestion.  I ordered the 10oz Ribeye, it came with a salad and a vegatable my vegatable was a baked potato and my salad I ordered with their house ranch dressing.

The onion rings came out right before the salads so it wasnt great timing.  While the onion rings were good they were not the hype they had claimed to be.

The salad was a standard garden salad.  It came with their homemade ranch dressing.  The dressing was good it had a decent flavor but the filler on it was kind of neutralizing to the ranch flavoring.  Shortly after the salad came out before they were finished the steaks came out.

The waitress asked if I wanted any steakhouse and I assured her a properly flavored steak didnt need steaksauce.  Their steak did not.  It had plenty of flavor juicy cooked medium rare as a ordered it.  The steak by enlarge was the best item we had all night.

After my steak I snuck away to use the restroom, it was in a back corner and the size of it made me logner for an airport bathroom.

The overall experience was pleasant.  The steak was great the rest of okay to good

The service needed some work they were not very attentive and seemed like they would wrather be helping someone else

Hickory House Barbeque Sapulpa Oklahoma

Yesterday evening as I was heading home I happen to be passing through Sapulpa Oklahoma.  I was passing through about 8pm in the evening.  When I happen to come across the sign for Hickory House Barbeque.  I went ahead and stopped as I was getting out of my car I caught the smell of the food, the smell was enchanting.

I happened to see only a few cars in the parking lot which for a Barbeque place typically is not a good sign but  I went on it.  The cashier asked me if I was eating in.  I advised I was, so she had me take a seat where ever I wanted.

I sat near the front on the plus was not to bad however it ended up by the restroom.  Apparently every evening they have a buffett for $12.95 I am a firm believer that the buffett style of food is never the best.  It seems to be more bland than the menu food and often because they make the amounts they do it never seems to taste as good.

After I sat down my waitress Christine took my drink order and asked me if I wanted the buffett.  I advised her that I did not that instead I wanted the Barbeque Bologna sandwich with a side of beans.  She took my order and off she went.  She stayed bus cleaning however that ment she wasnt up for chatting which IMO is part of the dining experience friendly staff.

I got the food in about 7 or 8 minutes which is OK with me but apparently it had gotten out that there was a guy in a dress eating at their restaurant because I dont think there was a kitchen staff person who didnt stop to try to get something for me or just come out to take a peak.

The Bologna sandwich was good ordered it was sauce on it however they were kind of stingy with the sauce so the bologna was still dry in a few places.  The bologna was missing some flavor which is why sauce is always good, however there was was pretty good it was not great but it was pretty good.

The beans tasted like they tried to spice up baked beans and it didnt work out so well.   They were fine but not great and a disappoinment compared to the spell of their barbeque and the taste of the bologna.

Overall the food was not to bad it left something to be desired however I was able to get out of the restaurant for less than $9 so not to bad either.  If you are in Sapupla it may be worth the stop.

Morrison Cafe

Earlier this week I happened to end up in Stillwater Oklahoma for work.  On my way out of town I happened to pass by this little restaurant called the Morrison Cafe in Morrison Oklahoma.  It was about 10AM so I stopped by to get a bite to eat.

When I went in I noticed that there was only 1 other couple in the restaurant so I sat at a table across from them.  The waitress was moderately friendly but you could tell she would have rather been doing something else than helping me.

I started off with a glass of Ice Tea, as cold as it was that morning I definitely should have started with some coffee but went with some tea just the same. The tea was unsweet they had both but  I decided to stick with the unsweet it was refreshing and the flavor was not to bad.

I order 2 eggs over medium and an order of bacon.  I had to only wait about 5 minutes and my meal was delivered the eggs were alittle more runny than I like but overall they were not to bad.  The bacon was crispy not burnt just crispy and it was OK as well.

I started getting cold in the restaurant apparently the restaurant was well heated.  I went ahead and ordered a cup of coffee.   The waitress brought it to me in a to go cup apparently she was ready for me to go.  I advised that was not needed so I sat down and started drinking my coffee I attempted to make small talk but she was more interested in seeing me leave than being chatty.

The only plus for the entire meal was that I got out of there for less than $6 for breakfast which is very reasonable.  If you happen to be in Morrison and dont want to spend alot of money and get average to good food the Morrison Cafe maybe the spot for you.

Lady and Sons Savannah GA

It would have been impossible to be in Savannah and not eat at Paula Deans restaurant so why I was in Savannah I did just that.  I went through Savannah I decided to have dinner at Lady and Sons in Savannah.  I got there around 8 pm and they had just finished their dinner rush so their was some seating available.

The server sent me up to the 3rd floor to eat.  The third floor had about 30 people in it so for the most part it was empty.  I was sat near the bar.  The waiter was kind, you could tell he would have wrather seated someone else but was good at his job anyway. and asked what  I wanted to drink I ordered the sweet tea.  and When the sweet tea came back he asked me what I wanted for dinner I asked for recomenndations.  He suggested their dinner buffet with fried chicken and all the fixings so that is what I ordered.

I started out with their salad bar it was ok but it didnt have all the items I thought it should have mostly because the table was relatively small.

The buffect table was bigger but other than fried chicken and catfish it had only about 4 vegatables and rolls on it.  Which was OK but not enought selection for what the buffet cost.

After sitting down my tea was there and my dinner rolls which were delicious.  The chicken was cooked correctly it was not overcook and it still had lots of flavor despite being fried.  I had 4 pieces of chicken total and 2 rounds of sides the sides were mash potatos which were good and corn which tasted like it came from the can.

After dinner the waiter brought me my dessert which was the ooy gooey butter cake which was delicious.  The perfect finish to the meal.

When I got up to leave I went to ask where the bathroom was but my waiter couldnt be found.  I found it by accident and away I went

The meal was good overall but I expect more variety for $20 per person  I expected better more attentive service

Skull Creek Boathouse

While in Hilton Head South Carolina I got a change to eat at the Skull Creek Boathouse. As it was 6pm and close to dinner time so the place was packed. I took a number as they stated it would be a 45 minute - 1 hour wait. I asked where a good place to wait was and they advised that down by the channel there is an outdoor bar.

However, being there were people already drunk at 6 pm they wanted to take my picture, which I am usually not OK with. While I was at the bar the two female bar tenders asked me what I wanted I ordered a reds apple ale I wished I had ordered one of their mixed drinks are seeing them but a Redds is what I ordered.

Jennifer was one of the bartenders names took my order I asked her if I could order off the menu she said I could  I asked for a recommendation and was recommended the Sevechie. I ordered the tropical sevechie.

While waiting on my food I ordered another Redds however like I said previously if you go order the mixed drinks that look great.  i had guests come and go as I was sitting at the bar there was a nice couple from Virginia the beltway area and a drunk fisherman.  All were pleasant.  When the sevechie arrived it was delicous.  I dont like seafood but it tasted like a fish had died from fruit overdose.  It came with tortilla chips they would have been better had they been warmed up.  As I was finishing my meal.  One of the locals decided to sit next to me and chat me up wow he was  drunk. We chatted for 45 minutes while I was eating and exchanged random conversations. He explained he was a fishing captain and took people out on his boat to go fishing. Tried to get me to go out but because I did not know him and was only there for 1 day I declined he swindled me into buying him a beer which was fine because his company was worth the price of the beer.

The bartenders were busy but not real chatting I minded my business and they theirs, if I needed something they would be quick but I wish they had been more friendly.  As I was getting ready to leave I asked Ashley the other bartender where the restroom was she advised me I asked which one they would prefer I use she stated she didnt care and should probably use the womens.  The line in the womens room was long but they had another restroom so I went and used it.  Overall good experience if you are in Hilton Head The Skull Creek Boathouse is defintely reccomended

The Helen House Helen Georgia

On my recent trip to Georgia I visited my cousin and her new baby in Gaineville.  I had received some advice from her on where to eat if  I happen to be in the area she told me I really needed to visit Helen Georgia.  So I got up on a Monday morning and headed over to Helen Georgia, it is about 30 minutes to from her house just north of Gaineville.  I have got up that morning and it appeared to be a scorcher so I went ahead and wore a sundress.  The drive is a lovely drive and leaving driving through the Blue Ridge Mountains is absolutely beautiful.  However, Helen is like an old Bavarian community and it really beautiful and unique.  On my way through town it was about 10:30 I was getting hungry and there didnt appear to be that many places to eat.  However, I noticed a plae called The Helen House that appeared to be open so I stopped in to try some of their food.  It was difficult to find their parking lot so I parked next door and went on in.

When you walk in it looked like a smalll mom and pop diner  nothing to special however the smell was devine.  The hostest asked me where I wanted to be seated.  I decided on the patio as it was still moderately cool outside.  They obligued.  My waitress was from New York and had moved to Helen with her husband because they fell in love with the community.  I understand why.

I asked them about their daly special and she let me know that their breakfast special was 2 eggs, 2 sausage, 2 bacon, and 2 pancakes.  That sounded like plenty of food so I ordered it.

While waiting I ordered a cup of coffee to start and a sweet tea to follow.  The coffee was good it wasnt great as I still added creamer but it was good.  The sweat tea was alittle sweet but overall good.

No sooner did I finish my first cup of coffee then my food was ready.  The smell was overwhleming and delicious.  The eggs were perfect just right not to runny.  The sausage and bacon were good they had enough flavor and required no seasoning.  The syrup was warm so it ran over the pancakes just right.

I chatted up the waitress she was friendly I asked her about things to do and she gave me a list and provided a map however very helpful

Hooters Duluth Georgia

One of the problems with arriving late into a city is attempting to find a place to eat.  When I flew into Atlanta I ran into such a problem. I wore the short blue dress I spoke about earlier that I wore in Kansas, it is short but it keeps you very cool and in the Georgia heat, cool is appreciated.   I flew into Atlanta arriving there at 9pm on a Sunday evening and as I headed over to my hotel which was in Gaineville GA, I was getting alittle hungry.  Subsequently I stopped to get something to eat I stopped in this mall area with what looked like a string of restaurants right off of I85.  However, it turned out that most were fast food and the ones that werent had a line.  So I ended up eating a Hooters.  A restaurant known for their service but not so much for their food.

Coming into the restaurant the bar was alittle full so I asked to be seated in the restaurant no need to draw unwanted attention.  My hostest Amber was pleseant and seated me quickly.  However, my waitress Jennifer took longer to get to me and you could tell she was not eager to help.  I ordered a smothered chicken sandwich.  I asked for a recommendation and Jennifer offered that I order hot wings not a food I was especially looking forward to eating.  So I went ahead and orderd the chicken sandwich.  I then asked for the directions and advice on the restroom which she gave and away I went when I had ame back i sat for a alittle while and tried to make small talk however Jennifer had no interest in talking to me and she kept sitting at another table with some drunk guys in their 20s.

My sandwich finall arrived that I ordered and the waitress quickly left me to my food.  The food was okay but once againt I think most of their food is okay rarely is it great occasionally it is bacd.  However, the service was dismal.  The only upside was the hostest was friendly and chatty.
